Govt. holds pre-Budget discussion on maritime transport and logistics sector

A pre-Budget discussion related to the maritime transport and logistics sector was held last week at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Labour Minister and Economic Development Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando.

Representatives from the maritime transport and logistics sector submitted Budget proposals pertinent to their areas, while also demonstrating comprehensive support for the initiative launched by President Anura Kumara Disanayake and the Government aimed at revitalising the country’s economy.

In addition, extensive discussions were held on how the maritime industry could contribute to the promotion of the tourism sector.

The discussion also focused on the significant role the maritime transport and logistics sector can play in strengthening imports and exports, as well as on developing currently inactive ports to generate revenue.

It was further discussed that, through investment in infrastructure and the provision of competitive services, Sri Lanka has the potential to secure a considerable share of the global maritime trade.

Senior Presidential Adviser on Economic Affairs Duminda Hulangamuwa, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Kapila Janaka Bandara, Sri Lanka Export Development Board Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe, Finance Ministry officials, and several stakeholders from the maritime transport and logistics sector also participated in this occasion.
