India, US to make fresh push for bilateral trade deal
Goyal will meet Greer as part of ongoing efforts to advance a "balanced and mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA)" and finalise an interim deal, according to an official statement issued today.
Goyal will visit the US from 29 September to 5 October and attend a G20 trade ministers' meeting in Wisconsin at Greer's invitation.
New Delhi and Washington have yet to reach a consensus on the trade agreement after months of negotiations, with India holding out for better terms.
Earlier this month, India said it had told Washington that new measures to impose tariffs on its purchase of Russian oil could affect bilateral ties.
