MSC and CMA CGM ramp up Suez Canal transits as liner giants jump on discount scheme
Overall number of container ship crossings through key waterway, however, remains stuck at low levels
A 15% transit fee discount for large container ships crossing the Suez Canal has shown some results, with boxship giants MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company and CMA CGM repeatedly sending such vessels through the key waterway.
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said in an X post on Saturday that the incentives it introduced for 90 days from 15 May have attracted six CMA CGM transits so far, in addition to four by MSC.
