MSC Group to Boost Trade Connectivity for Bangladesh with Inland Terminal Investment
MEDLOG, the logistics arm of the MSC Group, has signed a concession agreement to operate the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (PICT) in Bangladesh, a move aimed at strengthening inland supply chain connectivity and easing cargo flows around the capital Dhaka.
The terminal is located on the Buriganga River, close to the Dhaka–Mawa–Bhanga Expressway, and is expected to support a shift in cargo movements from road to inland waterways. The development is intended to improve logistics efficiency while reducing congestion and emissions.
Under the concession, MEDLOG will oversee terminal operations, equipment supply and automation at PICT. The company also plans to expand the facility to support growing trade volumes, with a targeted annual handling capacity of 160,000 TEUs. To enhance multimodal connectivity, MEDLOG will charter inland barges linking Pangaon with other river terminals and seaports.
Søren Toft, Chief Executive Officer of MSC, said the investment reflected the group’s confidence in Bangladesh’s potential as a regional trade gateway and its broader approach to developing integrated cargo ecosystems.
Salvatore Prudente, Executive Director of MEDLOG, said inland container terminals and barge-based transport play an important role in building efficient and sustainable supply chains. He noted that the investment aims to reduce reliance on road transport while supporting trade growth and local communities.
The project forms part of MSC Group’s wider inland logistics strategy, complementing its global container shipping operations and network of terminals.
