NLC launches Pakistan’s first containerized shipping service to Gulf countries

In a landmark move for Pakistan’s maritime trade, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has launched the country's first containerized flagged shipping service to the Gulf countries.
The service, which initially operates with two vessels, was officially inaugurated at a ceremony held at Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited, attended by senior NLC officials, shipping industry representatives, and members of the business community.
This historic initiative marks the first-ever Pakistani shipping line service to the Gulf region, providing direct and uninterrupted cargo transport between Karachi, Jebel Ali (Dubai), and Dammam (Saudi Arabia).
The ships will operate on a 10-day round-trip schedule, using a 1,120-foot equivalent container ship to ensure seamless and efficient trade between the three key ports.
According to NLC officials, the service will expand in phases to meet the growing trade demands of Pakistani exporters and importers.
One of the standout features of this new shipping service is the option to make slot payments in Pakistani rupees, eliminating reliance on foreign currency transactions. This facility is expected to bring significant financial relief to Pakistani exporters and importers, making trade with the UAE and Saudi Arabia more cost-effective.
NLC emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Gulf governments' trade promotion policies, aimed at strengthening economic ties between Pakistan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
The service will not only streamline trade operations but also create opportunities for Pakistani businesses to expand their customer base in the Gulf region, enhancing Pakistan’s presence in international maritime trade.
