Sri Lanka coconut recovers strongly June 2025, topping last year’s level
Sri Lanka’s coconut production had recovered strongly in the second quarter of 2025, with June production rising 18 percent from a year earlier to 289.5 million nuts, official data showed.
Coconut output in May 2025 was down 1.2 percent from a year earlier to 257.5 million nuts.
Coconut output in April 2025 was down 6.2 percent from a year earlier.
Sri Lanka’s coconut output as well as production in several East Asian countries plunged in the second quarter of 2025, with freak weather and disease suspected among other reasons.
Sri Lanka coconut prices shot up 18.32 percent in January 2025, recording the highest price for a coconut in a weekly auction, Coconut Development Authority showed.
But now prices have eased to around 134 rupees a coconut at the weekly auctions.
