ABS halts container certification for China-registered companies
The Houston-headquartered classification society says it not authorised to carry out container inspection services for Chinese registered companies.
“In accordance with Chinese regulations, ABS (China) is not authorised to inspect and certify containers for companies registered in China, “said ABS (China),
“Due to this, effective immediately, ABS will cease to accept application and certify containers for Chinese registered companies.”
ABS offers independent, third-party container certification on a wide range of containers to international and industry standards and regulations as well as those specified by owners and manufacturers.
To date, ABS is the first and the only classification society shutting down the container certification services for China-registered companies.
The US and China are increasingly squaring off with the ongoing trade war over tariff, and the US introducing additional port charges for China-built vessels calling at the country’s marine terminals.
