Vizag Port Sets New Record: 80 MMT Cargo Handled in Just 327 Days
Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has made history by handling over 80 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo—precisely 80,082,108 MT—in a record-breaking 327 days during FY 2025-26, the fastest in its 92-year legacy.
This milestone, crossed on February 21, outpaces prior benchmarks of 357 days for 80.11 MMT in FY 2024-25 and 362 days for 80.02 MMT in FY 2023-24, driven by enhanced operational efficiency, digital monitoring, mechanized handling, and strong stakeholder coordination.
VPA Chairperson Dr. M. Angamuthu praised the team’s efforts and expressed optimism for surpassing the 90 MMT target this fiscal year, reinforcing Vizag’s pivotal role in India’s eastern seaboard trade, including key exports like iron ore, coal, and containers.
The achievement highlights Vizag’s strategic growth amid rising maritime trade volumes, positioning it as a model for efficiency under Maritime India Vision 2030.
