VOC Port handles 3.94 million tonnes of cargo in October 2025
VO Chidambaranar Port reported a robust performance in October 2025, handling 3.94 million tonnes of cargo and 75,110 TEUs, marking year-on-year growth of 10.94% and 20.83% respectively. In the same month last year, the port had handled 3.55 million tonnes of cargo and 62,158 TEUs.
The port has processed 25.23 million tonnes of cargo and 5,03,204 TEUs during the April–October period of the FY 2025–26, registering a 2.71% rise in total cargo throughput and an 8.44% increase in container traffic compared to the 24.56 million tonnes and 4,64,060 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of FY 2024–25.
Operational efficiency at the port also improved, highlighted by an increase in vessel calls — 1,064 ships were handled up to October 2025, compared to 1,004 vessels in the same period last year. The Average Turnaround Time (TRT) for container vessels has also been brought down from 20.16 hours to 19.20 hours, reflecting improved productivity and faster vessel servicing.
Cargo-wise, the port recorded significant growth across multiple commodities. Petroleum products rose 11.16%, edible oil 8.57%, fertiliser 34.18%, fertiliser raw materials 8.32%, rock phosphate 9.85%, salt 53%, and construction materials surged by an impressive 177.22%, underscoring the port’s expanding and diversified cargo profile.
VOC Port Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit said the consistent growth across cargo segments highlights the port’s improved operational efficiency and its commitment to delivering customer-focused services.
