Chattogram bizs issue ultimatum to revoke Bangladesh port tariff hike

Chattogram-based businesses recently urged the Bangladesh government to cancel the increased port tariff that became effective on October 15.
They demanded a reduction in tariffs, giving a seven-day ultimatum to the authorities.
Else a protest movement may start paralysing port activities, Chattogram Port Users Forum president Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury was quoted as saying by domestic media outlets at a protest meeting at the port city.
Though port officials say the new tariff is 41 per cent higher on an average, businesses claim the rates of several charges increased by far more.
The association representing clearing and forwarding agents and two more associations would observe a four-hour work abstention daily now as a mark of protest against the tariff hike.
