CMA CGM announces new Asia-Africa surcharges for November

‍

CMA CGM has announced a series of Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) updates covering shipments from Asia to several African destinations, with charges reaching US$900 per TEU on selected routes from China to West Africa.
The revised surcharges will take effect on 1 November 2026 and cover shipments to West, East and Southern Africa, alongside Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and the Maldives. The French carrier has also announced a separate overweight surcharge for certain dry containers moving from China to East Africa.
The highest announced PSS applies to shipments from China and its Special Administrative Regions (SARs) to the southern range of West Africa, covering Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Namibia, Gabon and Cameroon.
For dry and reefer cargo moving to these destinations under short-term contracts, CMA CGM will apply a surcharge of US$900 per TEU from 1 November, based on the loading date.
Shipments from China and its SARs to the central West African range, including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Equatorial Guinea and Togo, will be subject to a PSS of US$700 per TEU. Ghana is excluded from this adjustment, with its existing surcharge remaining unchanged.
For cargo destined for Senegal, the carrier has announced a PSS of US$400 per TEU, while charges for other destinations in the northern West African range remain unchanged.
Separately, CMA CGM will apply a US$300 per TEU PSS on dry cargo shipments from Southeast Asia to West Africa under short-term contracts, also effective from 1 November.

Additional surcharges across African trades

The carrier has announced a US$300 per TEU PSS for all cargo moving from China to Madagascar, Mozambique, Mauritius and South Africa. The charge will apply from 1 November on short-term contracts.
A further US$300 per TEU surcharge will apply to shipments from China to Mombasa in Kenya, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar in Tanzania, and Port Victoria in Seychelles.
CMA CGM has also announced a US$250 per TEU PSS for shipments from China, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia to Malé in the Maldives, effective from the same date.
In addition to the peak season adjustments, the company will introduce an Overweight Surcharge (OWS) of US$300 per container for 20-foot dry containers moving from China to East Africa with a gross weight exceeding 18 tonnes.
The overweight charge will apply from 1 November 2026 until further notice and is separate from the carrier’s peak season surcharges.
For shipments originating in China, CMA CGM noted that the relevant PSS adjustments will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or incorporated into ocean freight rates.
The carrier also indicated that the announced surcharges are separate from applicable bunker-related charges, terminal handling charges, safety and security surcharges, and other local or contingency charges.
The latest adjustments follow earlier CMA CGM surcharge announcements affecting Asia-Africa trades, reflecting further changes to the carrier’s pricing structure across several regional markets ahead of November.
