SLPA and Evergreen Strengthen Strategic Partnership

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and Evergreen Shipping Line further strengthened their long-standing partnership during a productive meeting between senior leadership teams recently at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Evergreen Shipping Agency Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. was represented by Vice President Nishantha Wickrama Achchi, Head of Operations and Logistics Anuradha Fernando, and Senior Manager (Operations) Asanka Devagiri. From the SLPA, the delegation was led by Eng. Ganaka Hemachandra, Managing Director, joined by Mr H. J. K. U. Kumara (Director – Marketing & Business Development), Mr Pradeep Perera (Acting Director – Operations), and other senior officials. The discussions centred on strengthening operational collaboration and aligning strategies to support the continued growth of container volumes handled at SLPA terminals.
Both parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to enhancing efficiency, service standards, and long-term cooperation. SLPA acknowledged Evergreen’s position as one of its top volume contributors and expressed appreciation for the carrier’s ongoing trust and engagement. Evergreen, in turn, recognised the capabilities and competitiveness of SLPA-operated terminals, emphasising its intention to expand future cooperation as global trade demand continues to evolve. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both organisations committed to achieving new milestones through shared objectives and operational excellence.
Evergreen Marine Corporation, founded in 1968, has grown into one of the world’s leading container shipping lines, renowned for its extensive global network and modern fleet. Among its latest ultra-large container vessels is the EVER ARM, a 24,000-TEU class ship measuring 400 metres in length and built in 2022 by Samsung Heavy Industries. The vessel represents Evergreen’s commitment to high-capacity, fuel-efficient operations and recently demonstrated its capabilities during a successful port call at the Colombo East Container Terminal (CECT) in September 2024. The call of EVER ARM not only highlights Evergreen’s technological advancement but also reaffirms Colombo’s pivotal role as a premier hub capable of accommodating the newest generation of mega container vessels.
