US official visits Colombo to explore port cooperation
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) welcomed S. Paul Kapur to the Port of Colombo, in the presence of SLPA Chairman Dr Parakrama Dissanayake.
Kapur, who leads US diplomatic engagement with South and Central Asia as Assistant Secretary of State, visited the port to explore areas where stronger economic cooperation between the two countries could translate into commercial opportunities.
Discussions focused on practical areas, including trade facilitation, investment potential, and Colombo’s future role as a strategic maritime and logistics hub.
The visit reaffirmed the port’s position as a link in regional supply chains and pointed to potential value in closer collaboration between Sri Lanka and the US on connectivity and shared economic interests.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority said it continues to pursue partnerships aimed at strengthening operational capability, attracting investment, and positioning Colombo as a competitive port serving global trade flows.
