Sri Lanka’s ECT welcomes MSC Mariella in largest ever container vessel call
– Sri Lanka Ports Authority said its East Container Terminal had seen the its largest ever container vessel to call when it welcomed MSC Mariella, operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
The MSC MARIELLA, built in 2023, is 399.90 meters long 61.30 meters in beam (width), is an ultra-large container vessel which can carry 24,346 containers. It has deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 240,739.0, and a maximum draft of 16.26 meters.
The operation underscored Port of Colombo’s as a major transshipment hub in the region and its capability to handle the world’s largest and most advanced container vessels, Sri Lanka Ports Authority said.
To mark the vessel’s maiden call at the Port of Colombo, plaques were exchanged between the Master of the vessel, Captain Sanjeev Bhatti and the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe.
